What is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to understanding behavior. The goal of applied behavior analysis is to improve social skills by using interventions that are based on principles of learning theory. ABA refers to a set of principles that focus on how behaviors change, or are affected by the environment, as well as how learning takes place. Discrete trial training (DTT), modeling, premack principle, reinforcement systems both positive and negative are all examples of ABA therapy.
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
A BCBA is a trained professional who looks to identify potential causes for behaviors that are considered socially stigmatizing. BCBAs typically work with a team of professionals who collaborate on the development of a behavior support plan. BCBAs can provide supervision to RBTs, BCaBAs and whom ever will be deemed responsible for running a behavior support plan. In addition to the creation of a behavior support plan BCBAs can create data collection tools used for measuring and tracking observable behaviors as well as create systems for increasing and decreasing specific behaviors.
Behavior Technician (BT)
The function of a Behavior Technician in a school setting is to support students directly; classroom wide, one-to-one or in small group settings. The Behavior Technician (BT) will provide care/support while implementing a behavior plan directed by their supervising BCBA. In addition, the Behavior Technician initiates interventions that stimulate socially acceptable replacement behaviors so students assemble and develop their social interactions, problem solving and communication skills. Choosing a Behavior Technician will lessen the cost of receiving outside district support while gaining quality and consistent ABA service delivery school wide.
Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA)
Some students struggle to learn in school due to behavioral issues. Fortunately, there are interventions that have been shown to identify challenges and improve the situation of students. Functional Behavior Assessments are among the strategies that we incorporate to help both educators and parents solve complex behavioral issues that are interfering with students’ education. Based on the science, it’s a useful tool whenever a student’s behavior restricts or inhibits his or her ability to learn within the confines of the classroom or school.
